AgNO3: a potential regulator of ethylene activity and plant growth modulator Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Kumar,Vinod; Parvatam,Giridhar; Ravishankar,Gokare Aswathanarayana.
The aim of this review is to critically analyze the role of silver nitrate (AgNO3) in modulating plant growth and development. In recent years, basic studies on ethylene regulation opened new vistas for applied research in the area of micro-propagation, somatic embryogenesis, in vitro flowering, growth promotion, fruit ripening, and sex expression. Silver nitrate has proved to be a very potent inhibitor of ethylene action and is widely used in plant tissue culture. Few properties of silver nitrate such as easy availability, solubility in water, specificity and stability make it very useful for various applications in exploiting plant growth regulation and morphogenesis in vivo and in vitro. Silver ion mediated responses seem to be involved in polyamines,...

Arginine metabolism in uricotelic species - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v32i4.10990 Animal Sciences
Fernandes, Jovanir Inês Müller; Universidade Federal do Paraná; Murakami, Alice Eiko; UEM.
Due to the lack of a complete urea cycle, uricotelic species, such as broilers, are not able to synthesize de novo arginine (Arg), thus depending exclusively on dietary Arg. High levels of dietary lysine (Lys) increase the demand for Arg because of the antagonistic relationship between these amino acids. The Arg-Lys antagonism promotes an expressive increase in the renal Arg activity and consequently induces the degradation of Arg and the decrease in the activity of glycine amidinotransferase, an enzyme that uses Arg in the synthesis of muscle creatin. Arg is considered an important modulator of immunological and physiological processes. The degradation of Arg produces ornithine, a precursor of polyamines that are key to cell division, DNA synthesis, and...

Changes in polyamines content associated with zygotic embryogenesis in the Brazilian pine, Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze. Rev. Bras. Bot.
Astarita,Landro V.; Handro,Walter; Floh,Eny I.S..
Changes in the polyamine content were analyzed in different embryo developmental stages and tissues during seed development in the conifer Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze. Free polyamine contents varied according to the tissue and stage of embryo development, the highest levels occurring in the embryonic axis at the early stages, when putrescine and spermidine were most abundant. The levels of spermidine were higher from the stage where cotyledons arise, whereas putrescine decreases. The putrescine/spermine+spermidine ratio was higher during the initial phases of seed development, corresponding to cell multiplication and elongation, with a decrease in the final stages, corresponding to stabilization of the dry matter content.

Choudhary,Sikander P.; Bhardwaj,Renu; Gupta,Bishan D.; Dutt,Prabhu; Kanwar,Mukesh; Arora,Priya.
The effects of various conc of (10-11, 10-9 and 10-7 M) 24-epibrassinolide (24-epiBL) on polyamines and auxins contents was analyzed in 7days old seedlings of Raphanus sativus L. cv. Pusa chetki under copper metal stress. Cu metal (0.2mM) treatment significantly increased endogenous levels of putrescine, spermidine and spermine when compared with control values. Cadaverine content got decreased under metal stress. Endogenous polyamines showed varying levels in seedlings when applying 24-epiBL treatment only. Maximum increase was found in putrescine, cadaverine and spermidine in 10-11, 10-9 and 10-7 M conc of 24-epiBL respectively when applied alone to R. sativus seedlings. However, metal treatment supplemented with 24-epiBL revealed small increase in...

Exogenous Application of Polyamines Improves Germination and Early Seedling Growth of Hot Pepper Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Aziz Khan,Hammad; Ziaf,Khurram; Amjad,Muhammad; Iqbal,Qumer.
Polyamines are low molecular weight organic compounds involved in diverse range of biological processes in all living organisms. Seed priming is a technique that improves seed performance by rapid and uniform germination with normal and vigorous seedlings. A laboratory study was performed to explore the benefits of seed priming with polyamines on seed germination and seedling growth of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Hot pepper seeds were primed in aerated solution of putrescine, spermine, or spermidine (25, 50, 75, and 100 mM) for 48 h at 25 ± 2 °C. Significant results (P < 0.05) were observed for different attributes of seed germination and early seedling growth. Polyamines priming resulted in earlier and synchronized germination via improving final...

Fish oil ingestion reduces the number of aberrant crypt foci and adenoma in 1,2-dimethylhydrazine-induced colon cancer in rats BJMBR
Moreira,A.P.B.; Sabarense,C.M.; Dias,C.M.G.C.; Lunz,W.; Natali,A.J.; Glória,M.B.A.; Peluzio,M.C.G..
We determined the effect of fish oil (FO) ingestion on colonic carcinogenesis in rats. Male Wistar rats received 4 subcutaneous injections (40 mg/kg body weight each) of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) at 3-day intervals and were fed a diet containing 18% by weight FO (N = 10) or soybean oil (SO, N = 10) for 36 weeks. At sacrifice, the colon was removed, aberrant crypt foci were counted and the fatty acid profile was determined. Intestinal tumors were removed and classified as adenoma or carcinoma. Liver and feces were collected and analyzed for fatty acid profile. FO reduced the mean (± SEM) number of aberrant crypt foci compared to SO (113.55 ± 6.97 vs 214.60 ± 18.61; P < 0.05) and the incidence of adenoma (FO: 20% vs SO: 100%), but carcinoma occurred...

Influence of dietary live yeast on European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larval development ArchiMer
Tovar Ramirez, Dariel; Zambonino-infante, Jose-luis; Cahu, Chantal; Gatesoupe, Joel; Vazquez Juarez, R.
Recent results have demonstrated that live yeast in diets improved gut maturation in sea bass larvae. In this study, we tested the absence and two levels of live yeast in sea bass larvae diets. Specimens were fed from time of mouth opening to 37 days after hatching a diet of 0%, 1.1%, or 5.7% wet weight of live yeast (Debaryomyces hansenii CBS 8339). Yeast incorporation improved survival 10%, and reduced malformed larvae. In groups fed 1.1% yeast, only 1% of larvae were malformed, compared to 14% in the control group. Final mean weight in groups fed 1.1% yeast was twice that of other groups. Activities and concentrations of mRNA trypsin and lipase were higher in the two groups fed yeast than in the control group, whereas activity and concentration of mRNA...
